European GMDSS Certificate

GMDSS General Operator's Certificate (GOC)

Certificate held by Masters, Deck Officers or other shipboard personnel who perform radiocommunication duties on ships fitted with GMDSS equipment. Requires detailed practical knowledge of operation of all GMDSS sub-systems and equipment, ability to send and receive correctly by radiotelephone and narrow band direct printing (telex). Examined to the European Radiocommunication Committee (ERC) Decision ERC/DEC/(99)01, as amended, which is based on the harmonised syllabi developed by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) according to ERC/REC 31-06. Certificates will be recognised by all CEPT countries which have adopted ERC/DEC/(99)/01.

GMDSS Restricted Operator's Certificate (ROC)

Reduced content GMDSS certificate appropriate to ships sailing exclusively in areas covered by VHF coast stations. Requires practical knowledge of GMDSS sub-systems and equipment specified for ships sailing wholly within the range of VHF coast stations, ability to send and receive correctly by radiotelephone. Examined to the European Radiocommunication Committee (ERC) Decision (DEC) ERC/DEC/(99)01,as amended, which is based on the harmonised syllabi developed by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) according to ERC/REC 31-06. Certificates will be recognised by all CEPT countries which have adopted ERC/DEC/(99)/01.

Long Range Radiotelephone Operator's Certificate

Basic operator's certificate, examined to European Radiocommunication Committee (ERC) Recommendation ECC/REC/(10)03, as amended, covering MF/HF/VHF GMDSS techniques and operation for operators in the voluntary radio fit sector and operators on commercial vessels not subject to compulsory radio fitment under the SOLAS 1974 Convention. A supplementary examination (the Satellite Module) in satellite communication techniques and operation, including GMDSS techniques, is also available as part of this certificate.

Short Range Radiotelephone Operator's Certificate

Basic knowledge of VHF radiotelephony operation including GMDSS frequencies and techniques.
