What is ATIS?

What is ATIS?

What is ATIS?

ATIS stands for Automatic Transmitter Identification System. This system is used on inland waterways in a number of countries in mainland Europe. A unique FFSK data signal is sent out at the end of each voice transmission, containing the vessel's unique callsign, identifying you to marine coast stations and inland stations.

What do I need to do?

We need to contact the licensing authority in your own country, such as in the UK, it’s OFCOM. We need to provide our name, our vessel’s name, callsign and MMSI number. Only vessels with an MMSI number can apply for an ATIS number. This information will be sent to the corresponding licensing authority and then we can get the corresponding ATIS number, it’s a 10 digital numbers. We can enter this number to our VHF marine radio.

How to set the ATIS number?

Retevis RA27 provide the “ATIS Setting” function, which allows ships to be used on inland waterways in mainland Europe. We can enter the “ATIS Setting” of the main interface to choose the “ATIS ID Input” , and then input the number. But we should know that the ID number can only be input once. If we want to modify it, we must use PC software or return it to the factory for processing, So when entering the ATIS ID code, please check it is correct,

When we choose the “ATIS ID Input” function, we press the left or right arrows to choose different numbers what you need. Press the OK button to confirm the ID. Repeat three times to confirm that the ATIS ID code is entered correctly, then it can be used.
